Engel - Oktoberfest Marzen Lager - Beer Release
On the heels of a release where we questioned a few style guidelines, it's nice to remind ourselves that history and tradition have a place in our world. Oktoberfest Marzens originated in the 16th century, when the Duke of Bavaria banned brewing beer from April to September every year. The result was a tremendous amount of beer brewed and stowed away in March, so that it could be drank throughout the summer. By the time autumn rolled around, the remaining beers in cellars were drank in a celebration to make space for breweries to begin operations again.
Engel is our attempt to honor that tradition. Available only once per year until it's gone. It's a reminder to us that almost every strange tradition comes from the strangest origins.
