On the heels of a release where we questioned a few style guidelines, it’s nice to remind ourselves that history and tradition have a place in our world. Oktoberfest Marzens originated in the 16th century, when the Duke of Bavaria banned brewing beer from April to September every year. The result was a tremendous amount of beer brewed and stowed away in March, so that it could be drank throughout the summer. By the time autumn rolled around, the remaining beers in cellars were drank in a celebration to make space for breweries to begin operations again.

Engel is our attempt to honor that tradition. Available only once per year until it’s gone. It’s a reminder to us that almost every strange tradition comes from the strangest origins.

ENGEL
5.4% Oktoberfest Marzen Lager
A straightforward grist of pale malt and traditional german malts and hopped throughout the boil with Perle hops. Notes of rich caramel, warm toasted bread, and subtle hop fruitiness.

Available SATURDAY 10/3/26 at OKTOBERFEST on tap and in 4-packs. Quantities limited!

If one thing can be said about Autodidact, it’s that we do not limit ourselves to the metric of tradition. To brew a beer is to create something. What that thing is, is up to the universe to define. While we may make pitstops along the way to pay homage to clear definitions of style, we never let those definitions become our chains.

When we spoke recently with our friends at @counterpartbrewing, we wanted to bridge a gap between our grists, and blur the lines somewhere between the hyper-saturated and something classic. The results are a welcome change of pace...

BAD NEWS FOOTWEAR SIPPERS!
Unfortunately market demand for glass boots was at an all time high this year, largely due to an inexplicable resurgence in popularity…

Not wishing to leave our Oktoberfest crowd hanging, we jumped into action and whipped up a little something special for our annual celebration next Saturday, Oct 3rd. Say hello to our 2026 Oktoberfest mugs! Available when doors open at noon for Oktoberfest.

As usual, quantities are limited. Don’t miss your chance to own your very own piece of obscure brewing culture history!

We ask the questions for which we seek our own answers. The request, the response. What’s next?

The beer world can be overwhelming. Choices in abundance so great that it feels somehow limiting at times. Hops, hop farms, lots, harvests both early and late. Nuance upon nuance drilled down so infinitesimally small that it begs the question: will this prove meaningful?

The response, for us, yes. We sharpen our edge at the whetstone of specificity. Two of our favorite hops; blurred, melded, and honed.

DIALOGUE WITH A QUESTION MARK
8.5% Double India Pale Ale
Our go-to grist of pilsner, oats, and wheat layered with a favorite combo of ours: Strata and Nectaron, topped off with Nectaron Hop Kief for good measure. Chewy notes of sweet citrus gummy candies, berry medley smoothies, and fresh peach cobblers.

Available Friday 9/25/26 on tap and in 4-packs.

A few weeks ago we had some friends by to make a special edition of Engel, our Oktoberfest Marzen. If you want to try it, you’re going to have to come out on Oct 3rd for our annual Oktoberfest celebration.

Will we see you there?

#hellowanderer

Liminally awake, wandering the corners of our minds, we reflect on a time not so long ago where the trappings of this brewery life were nothing more than a distant dream. In those days, nothing held us to the ground. Wherever our thoughts pointed us, we drifted. We talked at the time of evolving that mentality as wandering brewers, but fate had a different road for us. Chance would lead us to cross path’s with our friend Ryan from @offscriptbrewing – who’s road felt familiar and yet so different. Exploring the world in search of inspiration, somehow he found us. When he expressed interest in creating something together, we were all in...

HALF REMEMBERED DREAM
8.5% Double India Pale Ale
collaboration with Off Script Brewing
A mixed grist of pilsner, oats, and wheat upon which we layered from @eggershops Riwaka, @freestylehops Nectaron, Motueka CGX, and @claytonhops_nz Riwaka Amplifire to emerge wonderful notes of ripened mango slices, gummy bear candies, and fresh lemon zest.

Available Friday 9/11/26 on tap and in 4-packs.

Did you feel the cooler air this morning?

We sure did. Around here we look forward to the fall. Something nostalgic about the air as the weather cools down. Watching the leaves quickly change from lifelike greens to deep yellows and rich reds before shedding back to the earth to feed the next cycle. It reminds us that nothing is static, but also gives a chance to find warmth in our surroundings. Like sharing a beer with close friends…

That’s why we brewed this one. Meant to be an elevation of the simplest ingredients. A beer for the beer drinker. No fuss. No frills. An exercise is careful execution and attention to detail.

Premium Offering
4.9% Kellerbier
A bed of our best pilsner malt and a delicate dose of Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops. Lagered lightly to maintain that youthful lager glow. Crisp and clean and easy to drink. Sip with friends and enjoy the changing seasons.

Available today.

Vinyl night upgrade…

Introducing tokens! From here on out, when you grab a drink at the bar (NA Stuff included), you’ll receive a token good for one entry into the vinyl night queue.

Vinyl night has come a long way since the early days, and the management system for queueing records (there was none) needed an upgrade so we could ensure more people got a chance to hear their music. Thankfully our good friend Shane from @hiddentracksrecords is known for being an idea man, and he did not let us down. So cheers to Shane, cheers to vinyl night, and cheers to all of you keeping it alive week after week. ❤️

AVAILABLE FRIDAY

Where do our ideas come from? For the amount of time we spend in our heads, we rarely spend time exploring how any of it works. And when we do finally sit down, breathe, and attempt to focus inward, we see how truly chaotic a mind at rest can be. Ideas and thoughts bubble up seemingly from nowhere, only to drift away as quickly as they came.
At some point in the recent past, an idea emerged and got stuck in our minds; to brew with Einkorn wheat– an ancient grain with an agricultural origin that dates back more that 12,000 years. A grain with a complexity that requires more careful consideration; The type of consideration and attention to detail that we knew our friends at @thetestbrewery would appreciate, so we asked them to join us for the endeavor.

NEUROGENESIS
10.1% Triple India Pale Ale
collaboration with The Test Brewery
A massive bed of pilsner, oats, and einkorn wheat create a strikingly complex and exceptionally soft pillow on which we layered wave after wave of oily hop compounds from @eggershops Nelson, Citra, @crosbyhops Deep Cut Cascade, Egger’s Motueka, and @freestylehops Motueka Hop Kief. We are getting overwhelming notes of fresh cut mango, sugared pineapple, and juicy mandarin slices.

Available this Friday on tap and in 4-packs.

3x Four Pack Limit until it’s gone.
